Von Abbott
Von
Abbott is a 1979 graduate of Truman State University. Von served in the U.S.
Army from 1979 to 1985; he was medically separated with the permanent rank of
captain. He and his wife Debbie (Briggs) Abbott (’79) returned to Kirksville,
and he accepted a position with Truman State University Department of Public
Safety. In 1991, he was promoted to the assistant director of public safety at
Truman and currently holds that position.
Von serves as vice president of the Kirksville Alumni Chapter and served on the University's 2007 Faculty-Staff Campaign. He is also active in the Kirksville community and was a founding member of the Adair County Drug Coalition. Von helped develop the Adair County Amber Alert System, is past president of the Northeast Missouri Major Case Squad, is a founding member of the Missouri Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and has numerous other professional affiliations. He has extensive law enforcement training and has received many awards and honors.
In his spare time, Von enjoys hunting and spending time
outdoors. Von and Debbie reside in rural Novinger, Mo., and they have two
children, Justin, who attends Truman, and Stephen. He and Debbie reside in
rural Novinger.
